Frequently asked

Why is my scan wrong?

Gold identification from a single phone photo is probabilistic — even expert jewelers disagree on karat from bark-lit photos alone. When real-gold likelihood lands between 40 and 70%, the app proactively asks for a macro second shot of the hallmark stamp — that's the single biggest accuracy lever. You can also tap to correct the metal or karat on any result; the app re-renders the verdict and scrap-melt value instantly.

How do I get more scans?

The free tier includes 5 lifetime scans. Upgrade to Premium ($7.99/month or $59.99/year with a 7-day free trial) for unlimited scans. Manage your subscription in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Why does the app ask for camera access?

The app needs the camera to photograph jewelry for identification. You can also pick an existing photo from your library. Camera and photo-library permissions can be changed in Settings → Gold Jewelry Identifier at any time.

Can I use this for commercial resale or insurance?

No. Per our Terms of Service, Gold Jewelry Identifier is informational. Commercial appraisal, insurance valuation, and pawn-shop transactions require certified grading — use the app as a check, not as a source of truth. For high-value pieces, always confirm with a local jeweler, acid test, or XRF analyzer.

Why is the scrap-melt value different from what a pawn shop offers?

Scrap-melt value is a theoretical floor based on grams × purity × today's gold spot price. Pawn shops and refiners apply a margin (typically 40–70% of spot) to cover their risk and overhead. Treat the app's melt value as your walk-away floor — what you shouldn't pay above — not what a buyer will pay you.

What hallmarks does the app recognize?

The bundled reference table covers karat marks (10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K), European fineness stamps (375, 585, 750, 916, 999), UK assay marks (anchor, lion-passant, leopard's head), common maker marks, and non-gold indicators (925 sterling, HGE plating codes, RGP rolled gold). You can tune the decoder region to US, UK, Europe, or India in the app's Settings.

How do I restore my subscription?

Open the app, go to Settings → Restore Purchases. The app will re-check your Apple ID for active subscriptions.

How do I delete my data?

Scan history is stored locally on your device. Delete individual scans by long-pressing and selecting Delete in the History screen. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. Server-side images are auto-deleted within 24 hours of scanning.
